Post Modernism - GOAD

The feature in the Garden of Australian Dreams that I have decided to write about is the Blue Telegraph Poles. These poles are an obvious reference to Jackson Pollock's painting "Blue Poles".

This feature appeals to me because of the controversy behind the blue poles, and how the inclusion of blue poles in this landscape is an obvious reference to that moment our history.

The Garden of Australian Dreams is considered "Postmodern" landscape architecture because it fits quite comfortably inside the "criteria" or common themes of postmodern art. Things like the complex symbolism and multiple meanings, the social commentary being made, the culturally specific references and the un-originality of the elements (such as the blue poles).

Bauhaus

My Bauhaus inspired house object was my bedside lamp.. It is simple in design, functional and made up of geometric shapes..

The double arm design means that as you tilt the light forwards, the arm holding the globe, remains parallel to its initial position. The arm holding the globe also has a piece of strong wire used to shift the arm around to direct the light. The base is broad and has a hemisphere to provide a stable support and the switch is situated in a practice position..

Dada Poem

Sooo my Dada Poem..

Click on the image to make it bigger, but if you can't be bothered the poem goes

"
Sun card by free canon off-site $60.00
on each sun canon work book price year
camera equipment when studio folio
year digital discount folio technician
regular studios selected off lense sensor
slr off you on-site workshop free sun
digital purchase canon when free
workshop cleaning 2gb for purchase
"

So to create my poem, I used a promotional article from sun studios. This way I figured it would be slightly photography related. I then used google image search to the nouns in the poem. However I used a random number generator to generate a number between 1 and 100.. I then went to the appropriate image that matched this number in the image search and used that photo in my collage.

This kept with the "random" and "chance" theme of Dada. The randomness was also detailed with the ambiguous nature of some of the words. Things like, when searching SLR it came up with a plethora of photos of a Mercedes SLR, when in the article the acronym refers to a single lense reflex camera.

There was also an element of not so randomness when the word digital was searched and the number 74 was generated, a Canon camera was the image selected amongst all of the possible images for the word digital.
